Teliyaleru Rama-- Where do we Learn..?

The composition Theliyaleru Rama is Simply synonymous to Sangeetha pithamaha Sri Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer..

So before speaking a word..I would like to give the audio link..
SSI and MSS -Teliyaleru-Dhenuka and
A Video Presentation By SSI

The Krithi is Of Shri Thyagaraja Swamigal in the raga Dhenuka ,the 9th Melakartha Raga

O Lord Praised by this tyAgarAja (tyAgarAjanuta)! they are not aware of the path of bhakti.

T S Balkrishna Sastrigal
I always remember Sri T S Bala KrishnaSAstrigal's laughter filled discourse on the Matter..He beautifully says that Thyagaraja Swamigal sings this song when every one in the Village complain that thyagaraja has neither undertaken any theertha yatra nor has he mastered the Veda Shastras..And Thyagaraja Swamigal answers their queries in this song..

In today's age people dont even remember to murmur Bhagawan Nama..Busy workers.. we are..Then what were they..? We chase Money throughout and what Do we Gain..?
Not even a Peaceful Death..

And to the Composition's side..It is quite Simple dressed Grandly by The Saravalaghu Swaras by the Pithamaha..He made the song his own..Nothing More to say Just enjoying the Krithi...

Parulanna mata -Embodiment of Prema Bhakthi

We have seen 10 krithis in this Blog and to make a difference It is a javali this time..
Javalis are generally poems which have a colloquial Word Usage and are simple to understand..They have a very strong feeling of Love towards the Lord..It is one of the 9 ways to do  Bhakthi..It is Prema Bhakthi that centres the krithi..
Krishna and his Flute
Parulanna MAta flows in our ears in the form of Prema Bhakthi..The Viraha Taapa of the Nayaki being seperated from the Nayaka..the lord Of Dharmapuri..

This Composition was popularized the Most by the Pithamaha Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer..So here is the Video Link..

PS: We can also find My Guru Sri Trichy K Ramesh (Right Tambura)Giving him vocal Support..Also In this rendition he precedes the javali with a shloka from Shri Krishna Karnamritham describing the beauty of Shri Krishna..And the Beautful Kapi flowing from the Mouth of the pitamaha is More like a perennial Brahmaputra..

Lyrics and Meaning of the Shloka

ayi murali mukunda smera vaktra aravinda
shvasana madhura saMgne tvAM praNamya adya yAce
adhara maNi samIpaM prAptavatyAM bhavatyAM
kathaya rahasi karNe mad dashAM nanda sUnoH

I am aware, oh, flute, that you are well aware of the sweetness of the breath of that smiley and lotusy face of mukunda; as such I reverently beg you to whisper sweetly and sub rosa into the ear of the son of nanda about my wretched state, whenever you are closely drawn to his jewelly lower lip for fluting.

I always feel the beautiful Imagination of the poet whenever i hear this Shloka...Probably a Flute vidu Thoothu..!! lol"

Parulanna Matta. rAgA: kApi. Composer: Dharmapuri SubbarAya Iyer.

Pallavi
parulanna mATa namma vaddu prANa nAyaka
Oh the Lord of my life, please do not listen to the words of others.

Charanam
mOmu cinna pOyina marmamEmirA mAyalADi bOdhanace mAya cEsErA
What is the reason that your face is dull?
Did some witch entice you with her words?

madayAna evate nIku mandu beTTErA mundu delpu ipuDu mOvi vinta jEserA
Which lady, who walks as if she is intoxicated, drugged you?
Do tell me now, she has made your countenance strange.

dharmapurini sthiramugA nelakonna sAmi nI dharmamuna nElukOrA nIku mrokkErA
Oh lord, who lives in dharmapuri, please take care of me righteously, I bow to you.

The pallavi Is very pleasing in the sangathis at "Prana Nayaka"
It bring a variety of themes from anxiety to agony.
The Charanams are well phrased to bring out the right emotions.
Overall a soothing hearing experience.

Let the Love Towards The Lord grow Greater and Greater..

Manasa Sancharare-A haven to the wavery minds...!!

Some problem with my Blog kept me away from posting this.. Firstly Sorry for the Delay of Today's post..

Today's Composition is in the Raga Sama ...A soothing Raga with great prayogas...Famous compositions include Annapoorne Visalakshi and Maravkave O manasa ..Also the all time favorite Varuvaro varam Tharuvaro Ayyan where the Composer waits for the arrival of his lord..

The Composition that we are going to see is One composition That deals with our own Minds.."manasa"

Ragam : Syama or Sama
Thalam : Adi
Aro: S R2 M1 P D2 S
Ava: S D2 P M1 G3 R2 S

Pallavi
mAnasa sanchara rE brahmaNi
mAnasa sanchara rE
Oh Brahman( Supreme spirit of the universe),ramble in my mind

Anupallavi
madaSikhipinjchhAlankru*thachikurE
mahanIyakapOlavijithamukurE

Your wavy hair is decorated with peacock feathers.Your excellent cheeks reflect like mirror.

charaNam

SrI ramaNee kucha durggavihArE
sEvaka jana mandira mandArE
paramahamsa mukha chandra chakOrE
paripooritha muraLee ravadhArE

Oh Krishna, your looks roam about the fort like bosom of beautiful gopikas. You are the celestial 'Mandara'tree for the devotees serving you..
Your face is like the divine 'chakora' bird which thrives on moon's beams. You are the Supreme Yogi. You play the most enchanting music on your flute.

The composer prays to the Supreme Yogi..The greatest Bramhan To fill his mind..In other Words he asks Krishna Paramathma to remove all other thoughts except the good name of the Lord...

When It comes to the beauty of the Raga I must say the raga in its essence has an effect..One effect that cannot be described in a single word..I would describe it as standing near the tip of a huge Cliff and looking at the vast endless ocean..Music is itself a similar case..
.

The raga is filled with Grace..There isnt one place that you can point out and say "This is the best" when it comes to this composition..The entire Krithi exemplifies a saga of Devotion to the lord..

And for the recording part...Yes..we have three versions today..

Good Night Friends..
Let The Bramhan Fill in your Minds..!!

Emani Vegintune - How Long should I wait..?

A striking tukkada piece popularized by Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer
Here you go :
Emani Vegintune-Huseni

In the krithi Emani vEgintunE in raga Huseni of Thyagaraja Swamigal's Immortal work "Prahlada Bhakthi Vijayam" Swamigal depicts the feelings of young Prahalada as to how long should he wait..It is "Viraha Tapa"
that centres the krithi..

An apt raga Huseni that depicts the feeling of seperation has been chosen by Thyagaraja Swamigal..It is filed with Karunyam

 It has the following structure
Aro: S R2 G2 M1 P N2 D2 N2 S |
Ava: S N2 D1 P M1 G2 R2 S

Pallavi
Emani vEgintunE zrI rAma rAma
O Lord rAma! With what Hope shall i keep Awake(Vegintune)?

Anupallavi
Emani vEgintun(e)ntani sairintu
nA muddu dEvuDu nanu bAsen(a)yyayyO (Emani)
With what hope (Emani) shall I keep awake (vEgintunu)? How long

(entani) (vEgintunentani) shall I endure (sairintu)?
Alas (ayyayyO)! my (nA) charming (muddu) Lord (dEvuDu) has
abandoned (bAsenu) me (nanu).

Charanams:

pAliJci lAliJci palumAru kaugiliJci
tEliJci nanu para dEzi sEya tOcenO (Emani)
Having nourished (pAliJci), fondled and pleased (lAliJci tEliJci) and
embraced (kaugiliJci) me many a times (palumAru),
now did it occur (tOcenO) to Him to treat (sEya) (literally make) me
(nanu) as an alien (para dEzi)?

ADina muccaTa nAd(a)ntaraGgamu niNDan-
(I)Du lEd(a)ni(y)uNTin(i)ndAka sarivArilO (Emani)
As my (nAdu) heart (antaraGgamuna) was filled (niNDanu) with the conversations (ADinamuccaTa) with the Lord,
so far (indAka) I remained (uNTini) content that (ani) there is none
(lEdu) (lEdaniyuNTinindAka) equal (IDu) (niNDanIDu) to me among my peers (sarivArilO);

eDa bAyaka tyAgarAjun(E)lu zrI harini tolli
baDalikal(A)rci nA ceyi paTTinadi talacucu (Emani)
As the Lord is separated (eDa bAyaka) from me, with
what hope shall I keep awake thinking (talacucu) of zrI hari (harini) – one who
governs (Elu) tyAgarAja (tyAgarAjunElu) –
about how earlier (tolli) He held (paTTinadi) my (nA) hand (ceyi)
relieving (Arcina) my weariness (baDalikalu) (baDalikalArci) ?

Review:
The composition depicts a solo melancholy of a sad Bhaktha who has waited too long For Hari Darshan..Thyagaraja Swamigal ascertains the fact that there is no better boon than Hari Darshanam and no Happiness as ultimate Bliss (Moksha)..One can imagine the plight of Prahladha and the Hardships that he came through with the karuna Kataksa Of his lord "Hari"

The raga Embodifies all these values in the prayogas that involve the rishabam and gandharam to merge thus producing a Nadam that sounds like Pleading to the lord Himself..Best of all the climax by the Pitamaha-By repeating the sangathi at emani Thrice, thus making it a worth hear song..!!!

One of those hundred songs that leaves you speechless even after hearing it once..!!

Enchanting...!!!

Eppo Varuvaro-The yearning of a saint-Madurai mani Iyer

Madurai Mani Iyer or Madhura (sweet) Mani Iyer Presents one of his most embellished Tukkada piece Eppo Varuvaro by Gopalakrishna Bharathiyar..

Writing something on the composition My Instincts Direct me towards Nandanar, The  Immortal work of Gopalakrishna Bharathiyar "Nandanar Charithiram".

Here the composer yearns for his Lord The King Of Chidambaram..He questions as to  When Lord Shiva would  liberate him from the worldly attachments..? After having acquired the right age and having searched the Lord Here and there he sees him in his imagination.the composer then feels that he has wasted his life in Material Attachments and he is waiting to reach to Golden Feet of PONNAMBALAVAANAN..!!

The Raga has an essence of Yearning in itself thus enhancing the composition

As to Madura Mani Iyer's Style..I would Just Say "IMMORTAL"
The sangathis at Nadanai Thedum (Ri ga ma ga Ri Ga Ma Ga Ga GA Ri Sa) and the ending after the Charanam with phrase "Ni Ri Sa Ni Da Ni sa" thrice sends Chills along my Spine..!!

Well Folks..!! A video is also available on youtube (But the .mp3 file has better audio quality)

Still  mesmerized by The beauty of the Lyrics,The Raga,The Composer and above all MADHURA Mani Iyer
